working hard (or hardly working?)
I couldn't resist this old pun... because sometimes it just doesn't feel like work when I am making jewelry. But I am working hard to complete all that I need to for next weekend's craft fair. One of my favorite details to work on... my price tags! I hand type all of my tags on kraft paper and sew them onto my pieces with baby blue thread. I love to type away on my grandmother's old typewriter. I love the sound, I love the feel of the keys, I love how some of the keys punch holes through the paper. It's the little things in life that make me happy.

all-encompassing
Loving this mosaic necklace from Ayala. The grandeur of this piece is beautiful. Such a statement but equally wearable!

perfect silhouette
My friend and I are always bringing up the idea of creating uniforms for ourselves (maybe because I am always admiring the fact that she manages to find the same silhouette dress everywhere she shops, which undoubtedly looks amazing on her). The idea of finding your perfect dress silhouette and reproducing it over and over again in different fabrics does seem like a kind of no-fuss, dream scenario. Then all you would need to focus on is accessorizing! I think the above silhouette might be mine... square neckline, empire waist, aline skirt, hitting just below the knee. I envision my dresses being made of a more structured cotton, but this is a start...

my i-wanna-be-ninh necklace
A few weeks ago I wrote this blog about Ninh Wysocan's necklace featured in Lucky. I heartbreakingly love this necklace of hers which, unfortunately, no level of delusion could justify a purchase of that caliber to me. But I had to do everything I could to capture the magic of this piece and began to collect numerous items that could hint at the nuance that Ninh represented in her piece. After creating my own version (seen above), I realized that, although this necklace might look chaotic or haphazard, it is very clear that each piece needed to be very carefully and purposefully placed to create the beautiful balance of it's organic flow. I am remarkably happy with the outcome and truly feel I captured a little bit of Ninh's essence I have so dramatically fallen in love with. I know she is going to be a continuing inspiration to me in my designs in the future.

and the obsession continues
I recently rewatched Masterpiece Theater's Northanger Abbey. This often forgotten Jane Austen novel, is beautifully done in this cinematic version. Although Northanger Abbey tends to be overshadowed by it's counterparts, I am beginning to love this story for almost the same reasons I love Persuasion above all. Where Persuasion captures the maturity of Anne Elliot, Northanger Abbey wonderfully captures Cathy Morland's naivette. Cathy's overly dramatic daydreams and shaky steps into high society are beautifully protrayed by Felicity Jones and I love Carey Mulligan as the conniving but equally naive, Isabella Thorpe. This is a must see for any Jane Austen lover.

introspective insights
I found this blog through one of my regular reads, A Cup of Jo. I absolutely love Leah's beautiful and insightful little notes!
